Tricks Behind a Successful Move

Moving is never a pleasant thing especially if your last moving experience didn’t go too well. Not only you are expected to keep account of everything that you move, but you also have to go through the stressful process of choosing the right home for you and your family. Your relocation to another home is only as stressful as you make it; there are indeed tricks to the moving process that can definitely lighten your emotional and physical load.

As you begin your home search try to look around for a single level home or if it is in an apartment building then try to secure the first or second floor. Moving into a three-level home or on one of the higher floors in a highrise complex can really test your patience especially if you are self-moving and the building is without an elevator. Not only can this moving project turn into a tiring affair, you also run the risk of destroying your furniture and appliances in the process.

Next, remember that toddler bed that you bought for your son just a week before moving. Well we suggest that you hold off on assembling it until you move into your new home. This would give you enough time to find the suitable space for it in your new home and even if it does not fit, you can trade it for a small-sized bed that would.
To further reduce stress with your self-move it would also be wise to get help from more than two friends to help you along since it would cut your time in half and save you from making too many trips at a time.

Having your moving boxes packed and labeled ahead of time would also save you a lot of last-minute scampering around. By packing in advance you would be able to sort out the things that you do not want and those that you want to keep so that you would not have to move with too much junk when you get to the new place. Before moving into your new place, it is always recommended that you enter the home beforehand and clean and tidy it up a bit so that you can set your furniture in an immaculate environment.

Most of all although moving is a difficult task, you can turn things around by making it a fun project. By having a few friends and family over on moving day, your good company coupled with light finger foods and drinks will be just the stress reliever that you are looking for. In addition, you may find that those who show up in the party can also
provide the extra helping hands that you need.

Last minute moving day tips

Now that moving day has finally arrived, you may have everything all packed, labeled and ready to go. As you wait for the movers to arrive, there are a few loose ends that you need to tie up before moving to your new home.
One  of the first things that you should do before the movers arrive is to control your pets. No matter how playful you think your pet is no mover should be subjected to having a dog barking and dancing around them as they move your household items. The end result of a dog playing around while the movers work would not be pretty; a mover can very well trip over the dog sending your belongings in the air. A pet’s place during moving day is in his doghouse or on a leash in the back of the house to prevent excitement when he sees the movers.

Next on the list is to be courteous to your current neighbors. There is nothing more annoying than living next to someone who is moving and they are disturbing others while they are at it. This scenario can get even more stressful when you choose to move during the night. If you have control over when you move you should opt for hours that are close to noon and no later than 5pm. As you move, ensure that the moving truck is parked in a place that does not block other people’s entrance to the door or the road. Your mover should never have to walk in someone’s yard as a shortcut to get to yours; ensure that this does not happen. After the movers have packed up everything in your home, make sure that you tidy up the front of the home as well.  If you have thrown out large items from your home that you no longer plan on using, don’t be tempted to leave the items near the sidewalk. Instead take them to the nearest dumping area.

Finally, always have your cell phone handy so as to communicate with the movers as you journey to the new home. Moving experts would advise that you get to your new home before the movers do so as to continue to smooth move by having your new space opened up and ready for them to offload and pack. Even if for some unforeseen reason you cannot get there before the movers do, then first let the movers know and have a relative or a friend on standby who can get there sooner than you can.

It is important to keep the movers in check with every thing that you do every step of the way. Even if you are moving out of town and have to fly to your new location, you should also have someone at your new home just in case
your flight gets delayed or canceled.

Summertime Move

It’s almost summertime and the moving should be cool and easy. The kids would be home from school and you would be able to get them to help you package and label some household items. Summer is usually a very popular time for people to get moving from one place to another; the weather around this time of year is sunny and great for moving. Since most choose this time of year to move, there would obviously be a very high demand for moving trucks whether you choose to move yourself or hire professionals to do it for you.

To ensure that you get to move during the summer it is best that you select and book your moving date with your moving company. Once you get that out of the way then you can start planning for the other aspects of your move. First thing you would want to do is to start getting boxes to start your packing. Packing one room at a time would definitely keep everything together as it pertains to each room so that your items would be easy to find by the time you move into the new home. When packing boxes, it is always best to reinforce the bottom of them so that they won’t burst during transit. Reinforcement can take the form of blankets or foam and even bubble wrapping. Whatever you decide to use make sure that you properly seal and label your boxes. For those boxes that contain breakable items you would want to write “FRAGILE” on the box just so the movers would know that they need to handle it with care.

When it comes to moving your furniture you should always make sure that they are padded well enough with anything from a blanket to bubble wrap. This would prevent scratches on your furniture. To further protect against scratches to your furniture you can also coat the wood with wax. If you have furniture with legs then you need to remove those legs before relocating as well as you would also need to remove the nuts and screws and place them safely in a Ziploc bag. Sofas should be stood upright on its end while the cushions should be placed in a large plastic bag so that they would not get dirty or dusty. If you are moving your dressers, move the furniture with your clothing still in tem as it would definitely eliminate having to unpack and repack when you get to the new home. Before moving, the drawers in the dresser should be well secured so that the drawer would not open up while the truck is moving.

Electronics should be placed back in its original box if you still have them around and wrap then up with either foam or bubble wrap. All the cords and cables should be wrapped and secured with twist ties. You could never go wrong with labeling the cords either as this would help you get set up at the new place very easily.

How to Move Glass

What is one of the most challenging items to relocate from one home to another? Did anyone think glass? Glass, no matter if it is big or small is a fragile item that some would rather not tamper with come moving day. Fragility aside, depending on the size of the item, glass can also be very heavy as well.

One is always looking for ways in which they can move such an item without it breaking and falling to the ground, shattering in pieces. If you are relocating a glass item like say glass art, mirrors, shower doors, table or picture in a do-it-yourself project it should be done with great precision in order for it to get safely to its destination. One of the first rules of thumb when moving glass items is to try to never lay the glass down. Instead glass should be transported in an upright position pretty much the same way that you do if you were transporting plywood.

For moving the heavier glass, two persons are needed for the job and rubber gloves are recommended, especially the ones with the rubber in the palm. With the use of a suction cup you would be able to steady the glass as you get it to the moving truck. Depending on your pathway from where the glass is to the moving vehicle you may also be able to use a glass dolly. When it comes to loading the glass on the truck you should it should be in a vertical position against the truck’s side.

The glass should be separated with cardboard sheets so that they would not crack or break in transit. If you do not have cardboard sheets another alternative would be to lay the glass between two mattresses which you should carefully remove when you get to the new destination. For the smaller glass type items such as pictures they can be easily wrapped and protect in bubble wrap or in blankets. Picture cartons can also be used to store your pictures. Of course if you do not have the confidence to move the glass, then it’s best that you leave the job to the moving experts by hiring a moving company who are equipped with a team of skilful persons trained to get the job done.

Getting to know your moving companies

If this is your first time moving, perhaps from out of your parents’ home for instance, then you would soon be spending your time house hunting which would be followed by trying to get moving transportation to get there. One of the first things that you should know is that no two moving companies are the same. There are different types of moving companies that offer different types of moving services. By knowing what type of companies there are out there it would put you in a better position to choose the right one that suits your budget and your needs.

There are three known ways that you can choose to move. They include full-service moving, self service moving and through do-it-yourself moving. If you decide to use a full-service moving company then you can relax and be assured that they will do everything for you during your moving day. Full-service moving companies would not only pack and load your items onto their truck but they would also unload it and place your furniture in your new rooms as well. Full-service movers are very popular; more so because they are licensed to offer you insurance should your items get lost or damaged. Compared to other moving companies, full-service is a bit more costly than the other moving companies but you definitely get your money’s worth. More importantly when you are using a full-service moving company you are paying for the convenience offered and the professional expertise that they would add to the moving experience. Be sure to ask a lot of questions up front when you visiting a full-service moving company so that there would not be any financial surprise for you when they arrive on moving day.

Another option for moving is using the self-service moving companies. This is a very cost-effective way to move and it gives you the opportunity to be more involved in your move. You get to do your own packing and loading and unloading when you get to the new home and all that’s left for the moving company to do is to transport your items from point A to B. This moving option is also very popular with those who move since another option for you within this service would be to rent a moving pod which is a container that you can take to your home and load the items yourself in your own time and at your own pace. Once the pod is loaded, the moving company would pick it up and transport it to your new home. Finally there are do-it-yourself moving companies which would rent you a truck so that you can not only pack and load it but the mover can also drive the vehicle to their new location as well. This option although inexpensive it can cost you a lot of money in the long run if some moving mistakes are made.

Since you are doing everything for yourself you may not have a direction as to what to pack and in what types of boxes. You may not know the road rules that apply to driving a moving truck either. Most of all if your items get damaged along the way due to packing your items in poorly structured boxes among other things, then you would have to get the items replaced since it is your fault and not that of the moving company. Ask a lot of questions from the moving company and confirm that they are licensed and legitimate to run such a business as well.
