Moving into a mobile home

Mobile homes offer many residents a chance to own their own properties since the cost factor is incredibly lower than what you would pay for a traditional house. Mobile homes are convenient and also have its fair share of amenities as well. Like moving into any other house, moving into a mobile home also presents some challenges. Unlike traditional homes, the space in a mobile home is very limited and it is likely that you can run out of space with a lot of your furniture still waiting to be situated in your new home.

Expert mobile home movers would advice that you position your larger and important items in the home before the smaller items. These larger items are those that you would consider a necessity and they include your couches, your bed and even your tables. Once you have all those furniture into place, you can then see how best you can fit the smaller items which can also prove to be a daunting task.

For instance, if you have a small kitchen you may need to sell your large refrigerator for a mini-refrigerator. Similarly a small kitchen would mean limited cabinet space. In this event, it would be wise to install shelves which would give you more room to place items such as your dishes. Shelves are also useful in other parts of the home including the living room or even the bedroom. There they could double a mantelpiece as you can place your objects on them or you can use it as a bookshelf. If your bedrooms are not big enough to hold a dresser, then you may think about getting a bed that has drawers. You can also invest in a few large plastic containers to fold and pack your clothing.

If you do not currently have furniture, then you can purchase those that are smaller in size so it can fit in your home. If you currently have large furniture, you should check with any family or friend that may be moving to a bigger home and may want to get rid of the small furniture that they currently have.  The key when moving into a mobile home is to try to save as much space as possible. Even if you have a small closet there are a lot of closet organizers that you can use; there are even space-saving hangers that you can purchase.

Summertime Move

It’s almost summertime and the moving should be cool and easy. The kids would be home from school and you would be able to get them to help you package and label some household items. Summer is usually a very popular time for people to get moving from one place to another; the weather around this time of year is sunny and great for moving. Since most choose this time of year to move, there would obviously be a very high demand for moving trucks whether you choose to move yourself or hire professionals to do it for you.

To ensure that you get to move during the summer it is best that you select and book your moving date with your moving company. Once you get that out of the way then you can start planning for the other aspects of your move. First thing you would want to do is to start getting boxes to start your packing. Packing one room at a time would definitely keep everything together as it pertains to each room so that your items would be easy to find by the time you move into the new home. When packing boxes, it is always best to reinforce the bottom of them so that they won’t burst during transit. Reinforcement can take the form of blankets or foam and even bubble wrapping. Whatever you decide to use make sure that you properly seal and label your boxes. For those boxes that contain breakable items you would want to write “FRAGILE” on the box just so the movers would know that they need to handle it with care.

When it comes to moving your furniture you should always make sure that they are padded well enough with anything from a blanket to bubble wrap. This would prevent scratches on your furniture. To further protect against scratches to your furniture you can also coat the wood with wax. If you have furniture with legs then you need to remove those legs before relocating as well as you would also need to remove the nuts and screws and place them safely in a Ziploc bag. Sofas should be stood upright on its end while the cushions should be placed in a large plastic bag so that they would not get dirty or dusty. If you are moving your dressers, move the furniture with your clothing still in tem as it would definitely eliminate having to unpack and repack when you get to the new home. Before moving, the drawers in the dresser should be well secured so that the drawer would not open up while the truck is moving.

Electronics should be placed back in its original box if you still have them around and wrap then up with either foam or bubble wrap. All the cords and cables should be wrapped and secured with twist ties. You could never go wrong with labeling the cords either as this would help you get set up at the new place very easily.

Long distance moves and delays

For those who relocate to another state it can really be nerve-wrecking when you get to your new location before your household items do. Being separated from your furniture for the first few days of moving in can truly make you feel uncomfortable more so if you are concerned about if your furniture arrives at your new location in  its original condition.

What can prevent an out of state moving company from arriving to your home on time? There are actually many reasons that your items may be delayed. One of the first things to remember is that whatever timeframe that the moving company gives you, know that it is not one that is set in stone. Remember that the movers would need quite a few days to be able to get to you, especially if they are trying to get to you the legal way.

There are a lot of driving restrictions by the Government about driving a truck for moving these days; one of which restricts long distance movers from operating a truck outside of set hours each day. Also, when it comes to the weight of your shipment as well as the miles away from your old home, this can also slow down the moving process. The further away you live from your current location, the more days you would have to give the moving company until they can get to you with the delivery.

Even before you set up your moving date with the moving company, it is your duty to let the moving company know how soon you would like to receive your items after you have moved in. True there are a lot of people who may want to get their items delivered within 24 hours or so but you would be doing yourself a favor if you were to provide your preferred dates of expected delivery so that the moving company can make a note of it.

Since the promised dates are usually recorded on the written moving estimate, the moving company is bound by law to deliver within the timeframe you specified. If the company fails to deliver at the time period promised, then they would have to compensate you for late delivery. Compensation is usually monetary or the company may offer to pick up your food tab or hotel stay especially if the late delivery of items has affected your daily living routine. Of course if you have the extra money to spare you can also find out about the moving company’s guaranteed delivery option.

How to move an armoire

Armoires are attractive in the home but can definitely be a bit challenging to move. With that said it is really better to leave this type of moving jobs to the experts. However, if you are determined to turn this into a do-it-yourself moving project, then read on. To move a large furniture or an armoire you would need lots of padding and tape which would keep your armoire intact by the time you get to the other location.

The first thing that you need to do is to remove all the shelves from the armoire. These shelves are to be bundled within the padding or a blanket and then wrapped tightly with tape. As you wrap the shelves try to keep the adhesive part of the tape from getting on the shelves as much as possible. If the tape accidentally gets on the shelves, it would be difficult to remove so make sure when you are using the tape that it is only applied to the blanket or pad. Once the shelves are wrapped you should take them to the truck where they would sit separate from the other parts of the armoire.

Depending on the type of armoire that you own you may have a few removable parts on it which may include doors. If this is the case then they should also be wrapped in a blanket or padding. Even if you leave the doors on remember to protect the handles and the knobs. Now you are ready to wrap the armoire with excessive padding from its top to the bottom, front and back and the sides also.  The padding should be reinforced with an excessive amount of tape which would also be wrapped tightly.

Even if you have a large armoire and the padding is not providing coverage to the back of the armoire then make sure that you at least cover half the top and bottom as those parts of the armoire can easily be scratched which ultimately can look unsightly.  If your armoire has a glass door then you can protect it with heavy duty cardboard after it has been padded just to further reinforce it. Now that your armoire is packed securely then you are ready to take it to the truck. Think about getting a shoulder dolly as it would help make your job a lot easier in carrying the armoire from your home to the truck and then to the new house. It would also save you from having back problems due to lifting long after you have moved in.

Moving equipment and products for your D.I.Y. moving project

Moving can definitely be a strain on your pocket and also your body. There are probably some of you out there who are probably still recuperating from your recent do-it-yourself moving project which saw you lifting and moving just about everything with the help from friends. If you want to spend the first few weeks basking in your new home rather than in bed riddled with pain, here are a few reasonably priced products that you can invest in.

Shoulder Straps
One of the best investments that you would ever make when thinking about a do-it-yourself move is purchasing a shoulder strap. Shoulder straps are designed to take the load off your shoulder especially when you are moving large furniture in your home. Most shoulder straps double as a dolly and are able to move everything from a large screen television to a washing machine. They are inexpensive and can move items up and down the stairs which make things much easier on your body when moving. When using the shoulder straps for moving, you should first get some assistance from a friend or two in order to make this moving process go smoother. The friends who are willing to assist you should also have shoulder straps on moving day as well.

It’s quite simple to use a shoulder strap but your lifting method could be detrimental to your body if you are not doing it right. If you have to move a large item like say a dryer for instance the best way to do so is to place the item between you and your friend. Don’t worry too much about the weight of the dryer because the shoulder strap would take on most of the weight as it can take on close to 800 pounds. What the shoulder strap would do is to elevate the dryer so that it is never touching the floor when moving. This is a good thing since you don’t have to worry about it destroying your floor especially if you have tiles.

Hand Trucks
Hand trucks work exceptionally well when you have to relocate your furniture and appliances on moving day. Not only is it designed to save you time when moving but it also allows you to move these heavy items without putting your back out. Without a hand truck one can easily have lower back injuries even if they are only lifting a moving box. Most hand trucks are made from steel or aluminum or even durable pipe frames. You can fit close to 600lbs on a hand truck which is also on wheels.

Back Brace
Finally, you would also want to invest in a back brace to assist with your moving project. Back brace can really save you some money at the chiropractor after moving day as it reduces the discomfort on the lower back when lifting heavy items and it also tapers abdominal support panels. It’s easy to wear as there are adjustable clips that would allow you to slide in and out of it well and it also comes with elastic suspenders.
