In some cases, not only would you and your mate have to decide on which extra household items to keep, if you both own homes then that too can be a bit tricky as well. The obvious choice would be to move in to the home that is the larger of the two especially if you have plans on starting a family within a year or two. If you are prepared to move into your mate’s home, then there should be a compromise where furniture preference in the home should go to the one who has given up his/ her house. As pleasant as moving into your mate’s home may look on paper, it really is one of the hardest things to do. That’s why to avoid conflict, couples prefer to sell both their homes and purchase a new one so that they can have a fresh start. Even more than that, purchasing a new home would also give you control of the space that you want in the home; you may purchase a home with a basement and attic where you can store the extra furniture that you have.

Now let’s just say that your budget only allows for you and your mate to purchase a small sized home. Then even before the wedding the two of you need to sit down and make inventory of everything that you have including the duplicated items. This would give you a better sense as to where you both are with your household items. Then you can start off by eliminating some of the items that you have identical products. The newer of the two items should also be kept for yourself while the older items should be sold at a moving garage sale or among friends and family, those who may have attended the wedding. When you are ready to move and you hire the moving company make sure to have all the furniture waiting in one of houses so that the movers would have easy access to them.

Beating the heat while moving

As recording breaking heat continues to sweep the nation, the show must go on when it comes to your home relocation. Summertime is undoubtedly the most popular time for moving and when it is stacked up with winter, summertime is definitely the lesser of two evils. You have waiting for a few months for moving day to happen and now that it is a month away, here are a few things that you should be aware of during a summer move. Even before attending to your household items, you should ensure that you stock up on a lot of cold liquids so that you and your movers can consume on moving day. A small investment in a portable water cooler would definitely keep you and the moving team hydrated so as to avoid the repercussions of the brutal heat to your health.

As you start packing your items in boxes, remember to reinforce your tape with two or three layers during the box sealing process as the summer heat may add moisture and cause the tape to eventually peel away. You would be better off if you purchase a moisture resistant, heavy duty packaging tape which also prevents against bursts and splits.

Boxes aside, the heat can really do a number to your wooden furniture as well as your electronic items as well. By using bubble wrap or even a piece of fabric, you would be protecting your electronics from the harshness of the sun. Even your wooden furniture runs the risk of getting cracked and peeled with the moisture of the sun. This can be prevented by apply a coat of vanish or by covering the surfaces of your wooden furniture. Remember that most of the moving trucks and without climate control settings. Protect your furniture to avoid headaches and unwanted out-of-pocket expenses.

Next, if you are still setting the day and time to move, you should select either the early morning hours or the nighttime hours from six o’ clock onwards as these are the times when the sun is less brutal. On moving day, try to make the atmosphere in your new home a comfortable one by turning on the air-conditioned unit before the movers get there so that they can enter a cool place when they arrive. Also, before they start unpacking your items, allow them to rest for a while with some refreshments on hand. The sun has a tendency to make one feel lethargic and the rest and refreshment would definitely energize the moving crew.

How to select a moving company

You owe it to yourself to perform extensive research on every aspect of your move this summer from choosing the right mover to getting detailed information on the neighborhood that you are moving into.

Summertime is no doubt the peak time for moving. It is also the time when new moving companies pop out the woodwork to capitalize on this busy and lucrative moving time. This is usually the season when a lot of people make bad moving choices by going with the first moving company that they hear about without even conducting research on the company; a reasonable fee usually gets the movers the job. Don’t be fooled; not every moving company has your best interest at heart. Most of them are just in the business to make quick and easy money. With that said, be very careful about how you select your moving companies.

One of the first red flags when shopping around for a mover is the response that you would get when you phone the moving company. Moving experts would warn against employing the services of any moving company representative that answers the phone without acknowledging the name of their company. If you call and you hear “movers” on the other line then declare it’s a wrong number and immediately hang up. Not only is it unprofessional it also is clear indication that you may have just dialed into an unregistered moving company.

Even when you start calling what you perceive to be  “legitimate” moving companies and you plan on moving out of state, you should request that they provide you with  an interstate transport license or with their their US Department of Transportation registration number so that you can research the vehicle’s information with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Whether moving in or out of state, The Better Business Bureau (BBB) would be the first place that you should check to get information on your moving company of choice. The BBB  is filled with information about the moving companies and the complaints that were submitted against them from previous customers. What is even more important is that you would also get to see how the moving company chose to resolve the complaint issues.

In addition, insist that your moving company does an inspection of your home to determine an estimated price of what your household items would cost to move. After the house inspection ensure that you get a written estimate for if a company refuses to provide you with such a document, then you should consider another moving company. Finally when moving into a new neighborhood you should call the police department in that area to make sure that the area is a safe and secure one. Also, if a home appear too good to be true, it usually is. We recently learned about someone who got caught up in an apartment rental offer where the first month was free in addition to not having to pay security deposit as well.

With no background or credit check completed, the person was able to secure the apartment which contained  the luxurious amenities that one can possibly think about including spa, tennis courts, pool, club-house and play scape for the children. The only problem: three people were murdered in one of the apartments mere months ago and there were countless burglaries reported as well. The vacant apartments were as a result of people moving out in a hurry after the crimes were committed. This is definitely not the kind of environment you would want to come home to.
